Atkins rated lowest, Weight Watchers rated the highest success ratio!

In a Chicago Sun Times feature article, the Weight Watchers program was rated as having the highest rate of success and also being the healthiest weight control program.  The rating was obtained from a Sun Times survey of dietitians.  The Atkins low carb plan rated the lowest among dietitians.

Objections to low carbing included too many nutritious foods restricted, too hard to stay on for long term and possible health consequences.

The nutritionists and dieticians remarked that one of the reasons they rated the Dr Atkins low carb diet with a very low rating because they had never seen someone who kept their weight off on a long term basis using the Atkins and low carb type diets.

It should be noted that many cardiologists have stated that they have patients on the low carb diets who have gotten very high cholesterol readings and require statin drugs to lower the cholesterol. (Although the Atkins Institute claims the opposite, that low carbing lowers the cholesterol).

To date, the only studies supporting the Atkins diet have been those financed by the Atkins Institute.

Some physicians have expressed concern about the dangers of the Atkins and low carb diets and they have a website warning other physicians about this:
